Punta de Zicatela, Oaxaca
Welcome to Punta de Zicatela in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
If you are looking for good waves, good food, and epic views then this is your town.
This was the first stop on our trip around Mexico. What brought us here was the surf point known as the Mexican Pipeline and the famous Casa Tiny on Airbnb (check out the full post in the interiors section).
We started our trip in Punta de Zicatela (small town in Puerto Escondido), which I highly recommend you spend time in. It's just outside of the main town of Zicatela at the point (hence the name) and has all the small surf town vibes you would want with one of the best ocean breaks.
Our Airbnb in Punta de Zicatela was pretty much a treehouse dream. It was the top floor of a 3 story home with an epic palapa roof, hammock, fresh fruit, views of the point, and a little gatito amigo.
This was such a fun spot to start our trip through Mexico. We did go in the beginning of September which tends to have more cloudy / rainy days but thankfully we lucked out with some sun. Note that this is also a very small town with the main drag being on a dirt road which means many spots are not found on google maps. This just adds to the adventure of exploring and feeling like you've found a hidden gem.
